
This video shows Audrey Gibson and a pupil from Larbert High School, Falkirk Council, talking about the Young Enterprise programme. They talk about how this is used throughout the school from creating board games to running a business. The programme is aimed at increasing the confidence of pupils in a working environment and developing their career skills.
After reading a Determined to Succeed publication, Caledonia Produce were inspired to team up with Bo’ness Acedemy to set pupils the challenge of producing a marketable product that could be supplied and sold by M&S. Caledonia Produce worked closely with the pupils and staff using a team based approach and involving a number of departments such as Business Studies, Home Economics, PSE and Art and Design. The schools and employer worked together to devise a syllabus that would not only take forward the outcomes of Curriculum for Excellence but also deliver a project that was not only challenging but enjoyable.
Pupils from Peebles High School are working closely with Muir Homes, a family owned business to construct a building that will house an indoor classroom for teaching a variety of skills and trades that every modern day construction worker will need. This was called ‘The Muir Project’. 6th year pupils from Peebles High School will develop their leadership skills in taking forward this project from the planning to the implementation of the building. The project takes them beyond the classroom experience into a motivating a real life environment.

This project, aimed at S1 pupils, teaches the principles of civil engineering by having the class work on a scenario whereby they have to help rebuild the infrastructure of a hurricane-devastated country. The video includes a presentation by civil engineers to pupils in which they are set the challenge and given a two week programme of cross-curricular activities that focus on teamwork and practical skills. Pupils talk about the activities they took part in and describe what they learned and what they enjoyed.

Cathkin Community Nursery hired a professional film crew to work alongside the children. The project offered the children many learning opportunities to explore films and the process involved in making films.

Camglen Community Radio Station, Hallside Primary and Cathkin High School form a partnership strategy allowing pupils to gain a wide variety of skills, including broadcasting and digital music skills. Radio station staff work with pupils to develop playlists and programme schedules, which are broadcast live on air. Staff, teachers and pupils outline the benefits of partnership working and the positive effect it has on the pupils' education and self-confidence.
Police officers and staff from the Strathclyde Police Crash Investigation Unit demonstrate the application of maths and physics to students at Marr College in a 'real world' context. The students participate by using formulas that they learn in class to solve problems and gather data from a recreated accident scene. Police staff, teaching staff and pupils describe why learning through this partnership is effective and enjoyable.
Stirling Managment Centre and Wallace High School work in partnership to provide pupils with experiences across a number of areas in hospitality industry as well as gaining transferable skills for work. Staff, pupils and teachers describe how this is an effective partnership for both parties and the benefits of using this approach.

In order that school and business partnerships are successful, several ideas are highlighted and four important attributes are pinpointed for schools to consider.
